Welcome To AE

The idea for AE was launched over 20 years ago, and the proposal for the Aerospace Engineering Department was initiated in 1404 H (1984 G). Aeronautical Engineering option was opened in Mechanical Engineering Department (ME) in 1406 H (1986 G). A separate Aerospace Engineering Program was started in ME Department in 1419 H (1998 G). Aerospace Engineering Department was established in 1423 H (2002 G) as the first full-fledged Aerospace (Aeronautics and Astronautics) engineering department in the kingdom and in the Gulf region.

Changes in the BS Program (Semester 231)

Implementation of new AE BS program (Regular/Summer Training option and Internship option) from term 231.

The critical change in the BS program revision involves:

  • Dropping of course AE230 - AE Vehicle Performance (3-0-3).
  • Restructuring of certain courses that previously consisted of combined lecture and lab components.
    • AE 222 Introduction to Aerospace Engineering (3-0-3)
    • AE 223 Fluid Mechanics Lab (0-3-1)
    • AE 314 Systems and Control (3-0-3)
    • AE 315 Systems and Control (0-3-1)
  • Introducing new lab course AE 321 Structures and Materials Lab (0-3-1)
  • By separating lecture and lab components, we aim to provide you with a deeper understanding of the subject matter and an opportunity to excel in your studies.

Following are the highlights that you have to keep in mind while enrolling the courses under careful guidance of your advisors:

List of courses that will no longer be offered starting term 231:

Course # Name Credit Hours
AE 221 Introduction to Aerospace Engineering 2-3-3
AE 230 AE Vehicle Performance 3-0-3
AE 312 Fundamentals of AE Design 1-0-1
AE 313 AE Systems and Control 2-3-3
AE 357 AE Numerical Methods Lab 0-3-1
AE 421 Aerospace Engineering Lab 0-3-1

List of courses introduced in the BS program:

Course # Name Credit Hours
AE 222 Introduction to Aerospace Engineering 3-0-3
AE 223 Fluid Mechanics Lab 0-3-1
AE 314 Systems and Control 3-0-3
AE 315 Systems and Control Lab 0-3-1
AE 321 Structures and Materials Lab 0-3-1
AE 358 Computer Aided Engineering Lab 0-3-1
AE 423 Aerodynamic and Propulsion Lab 0-3-1
AE 499 AE Seminar 1-0-1

For students following old program, we have ensured that the revised program aligns with your old coursework as much as possible. Some courses have equivalent counterparts in the new program, and I've included a list of these for your reference.

New Course Equivalent Old Course
AE 222 Introduction to Aerospace Engineering (3-0-3)
