Aerospace engineering is largely about artifacts that fly – airplanes, rocket, satellites, missiles etc. It is a branch of engineering, responsible for design, analysis, and construction of aeronautical and aerospace vehicles, such as civil /military aircraft, spacecraft, rockets, satellites, missiles, space stations, lunar vehicles.

Welcome To AE

The idea for AE was launched over 20 years ago, and the proposal for the Aerospace Engineering Department was initiated in 1404 H (1984 G). Aeronautical Engineering option was opened in Mechanical Engineering Department (ME) in 1406 H (1986 G). A separate Aerospace Engineering Program was started in ME Department in 1419 H (1998 G). Aerospace Engineering Department was established in 1423 H (2002 G) as the first full-fledged Aerospace (Aeronautics and Astronautics) engineering department in the kingdom and in the Gulf region.

Wind Tunnel Testing Facility

The laboratory is primarily designed to carry out both fundamental and applied research in shear flows, aerodynamics of streamlined and bluff bodies, super-sonic flow, etc. The laboratory has two sub-sonic wind tunnels, open loop and closed loop with maximum velocities of 40 m/s and 65 m/s respectively.
